In a tragic turn of events on November 1, 2023, 34-year-old Steven Michael Nabakowski was found deceased in his Odenton, Maryland, residence. Anne Arundel County Police officers responded to a call for a suspicious death in the 500 block of Retreat Court at approximately 9:50 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Steven inside the home, having sustained what appeared to be one or more gunshot wounds.
The investigation into Steven's death quickly led authorities to his father, Jack
Michael Nabakowski, with whom he shared the residence. In a grim development, Jack, a retired service member, was found deceased around 9:40 a.m. at the Fort George G. Meade Army installation, a short distance from the family's home. He was located in the parking lot of the Army & Air Force Exchange Service, having died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Subsequent investigation by homicide detectives concluded that Jack Michael Nabakowski was responsible for the death of his son, Steven, in what has been ruled a murder-suicide. While the sequence of events has been established, the motive behind the tragic incident remains under investigation by authorities. The final determination of the cause and manner of both deaths is pending from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.
