In the late evening hours of January 26, 2024, the life of 20-year-old Kareem Gee was tragically cut short on the 1200 block of East Preston Street in Baltimore, Maryland. Officers, responding to a ShotSpotter alert at approximately 10:40 p.m., discovered the young man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Paramedics rushed him to Johns Hopkins Hospital, but despite their life-saving efforts, Kareem Gee was pronounced deceased.

The investigation into the death of Kareem Gee led Baltimore Police Department homicide detectives to identify a suspect. On February 22, 2024, a collaborative effort between Eastern District Intel members, patrol officers, and the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force resulted in the arrest of 32-year-old Isaiah Eaddy of Baltimore. A handgun was recovered from Eaddy at the time of his arrest. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder for his alleged involvement in Gee's death.
Following his arrest, Isaiah Eaddy was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility. The prosecution later offered him a plea deal which included a life sentence for first-degree murder and a concurrent 20-year sentence for a firearm offense, with the first five years to be served without the possibility of parole. However, on July 19, 2024, Eaddy rejected this offer in front of a Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge. His trial was scheduled to begin on November 12, 2024. During the trial proceedings in March 2025, Eaddy testified that he did not know Kareem Gee and did not intend to kill him, claiming he acted in self-defense after being approached and shot at by a group of masked individuals. A firearms analyst confirmed that the recovered ammunition was likely from a semi-automatic weapon. The defense argued that the prosecution could not prove first-degree murder, citing the involvement of multiple firearms and a lack of connection between Eaddy and the victim. A motion to dismiss the charges was denied, and the trial was set to continue with closing statements.
