In the early morning hours of June 2, 2024, the life of 34-year-old Jarmal Harrid was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in downtown Baltimore. Harrid, a Black male, was inside a business on the 500 block of West Mulberry Street at approximately 3:49 a.m. when the incident occurred. Emergency services found him suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Harrid's murder quickly led Baltimore Police
to identify suspects. Witnesses reported seeing a suspect flee the scene in a red Lexus, which was later discovered to be Harrid's vehicle. On June 6, 2024, detectives arrested 25-year-old Aqil Tamir King in connection with the murder. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and other related offenses. A second suspect, 36-year-old Munir Dawan Matin, was arrested on June 11, 2024.
Further investigation revealed a grim narrative of a day-long crime spree allegedly perpetrated by Matin. Police believe that after killing Harrid, Matin carjacked his red Lexus. He is then suspected of committing two additional shootings later that day, one of which was another homicide. Investigators connected the three incidents through surveillance footage showing Matin wearing the same clothing at each scene, and ballistics evidence confirmed that the same weapon was used in all three shootings. When Matin was apprehended, he was reportedly wearing the same shoes as seen in the footage from one of the other murders.
In a turn of events, the charges against Aqil King were dropped in February 2025, after the prosecution failed to produce sufficient evidence to prove his involvement beyond his presence at the scene of Harrid's murder. Munir Dawan Matin, however, faced a multitude of charges for the events of that day, including two counts of first-degree murder. In October 2025, Matin accepted a plea deal, admitting his involvement in the deaths of both Jarmal Harrid and the second homicide victim. He was sentenced to life in prison with all but 60 years suspended. Following his prison term, he will be required to serve five years of supervised probation. During the court proceedings, it was mentioned that Matin had a history of mental health issues and substance abuse.
