In the quiet community of New Market, Maryland, the morning of August 25, 2024, was shattered by a horrific discovery that would forever alter the lives of four young children. Inside their home on Mandalong Court, their mother, 33-year-old Crimea Malita Baker, and her partner, 34-year-old Sean Antoine Lange, were found deceased in an upstairs bedroom, both having suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
The scene was one of unimaginable violence, with investigators recovering more than 40 shell casings, indicating the sheer rage of the attack. The preliminary investigation suggested the tragic event had unfolded hours earlier, at approximately 1:25 a.m., while the four children, all 13 years old or younger, were in the house. The children, unharmed physically, hid until they felt it was safe to emerge, at which point they made the traumatic discovery and a 10-year-old called for help. Baker was the mother of all four children, and Lange was the father of one of them.
The Frederick County Sheriff's Office immediately launched an intensive investigation, quickly determining that the killings were not a random act but a targeted and heinous crime. Sheriff Chuck Jenkins described it as a 'crime of rage and anger' and a 'targeted domestic-related murder,' assuring the shaken community that there was no broader threat to the public. As detectives worked tirelessly, pursuing every lead, a suspect began to emerge. The investigation pointed toward Crimea's ex-husband, 33-year-old David Phillip Turner of Miami, Florida.
The relentless efforts of law enforcement, in collaboration with multiple agencies including the FBI, led them to Florida. On September 28, 2024, David Phillip Turner was taken into custody in Fort Lauderdale. Evidence gathered from search and seizure warrants executed on his apartment and vehicle in Miami was pivotal in securing an arrest warrant. Following his arrest, Turner was held in the Broward County Sheriff's Office Jail, awaiting extradition back to Maryland to face the charges against him. In December 2024, he was successfully extradited to Frederick County and ordered to be held without bond. Turner was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, home invasion, and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a violent felony. A subsequent indictment in November 2025 included charges of interstate travel to commit domestic violence and use of a firearm. The children, left devastated by the loss of their mother, were placed in the care of family members in Maryland.
