On February 25, 2023, Ronnel Cedric Lamar Smith, a 12-year-old boy from West Allis, Wisconsin, was shot and killed during a birthday party at the Bug n Out Lounge. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. when gunfire erupted inside the venue. Smith suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a local hospital. His tragic death has highlighted the ongoing issue of gun violence affecting young people in the Milwaukee area.
