In the afternoon hours of a Thursday in Milwaukee, the life of 15-year-old Keyshon E. Harris, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On August 10, 2023, near the intersection of 53rd and Center, a sequence of events unfolded that would leave a community in mourning. Around 3:30 p.m., an armed individual approached the teenager on foot.
The suspect, without known provocation, fired a handgun multiple times, striking Keyshon.
The assailant then quickly fled the scene, making an escape in a blue Hyundai Elantra. Emergency services were called, but the injuries Keyshon sustained were too severe, and he was pronounced dead. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office later officially identified him as the victim.
In the wake of the shooting, the Milwaukee Police Department launched an investigation and began a search for the person responsible. Authorities have described the suspect as a tall and thin Black male. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly wearing a black mask, a tan or orange zip-up "Amos" hooded sweatshirt over a black shirt, black jogger sweatpants, and distinctive orange "Yeezy" shoes. Police have since released a photo of the man they believe was involved in the fatal shooting and continue to seek information from the public to aid in their ongoing investigation. As of now, the suspect remains unknown and at large.
