In the early hours of January 9, 2024, the life of 43-year-old Jason Taylor, a White/Caucasian male from Elkhorn, Wisconsin, was tragically cut short in Milwaukee. His body was discovered in an alley near North 14th and West Burleigh Streets. Initially, the circumstances of his death were a mystery, as responding officers found no evidence of a shooting at the scene where his body was left.
This led investigators to believe he had been killed elsewhere.
The investigation quickly led police to Taylor's vehicle, which was found near 13th and Burleigh. Inside the car, they discovered blood evidence, and a significant clue emerged when a 9mm fired cartridge casing fell from the sun visor during a search of the vehicle. This confirmed that Jason Taylor had been shot inside his own car before his body was moved to the nearby alley.
Witnesses soon came forward, shedding light on the events that led to the homicide. According to their accounts, Taylor had been involved in an altercation with 29-year-old William McCoy. One witness heard a gunshot while Taylor and McCoy were in the car together. Another witness stated that McCoy "upped the gun" and shot Taylor after being told that Taylor had been talking about him. Following the shooting, McCoy allegedly moved Taylor's body into the backseat and drove to the alley where he was later found.
On February 21, 2024, William McCoy was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless homicide in connection with Jason Taylor's death. In September, a jury found McCoy guilty, and he was subsequently sentenced to 35 years in prison, with an additional 10 years of extended supervision.
