On the late evening of Monday, July 8, 2024, a young Black / African American man named Christopher Davis, aged 21, was fatally shot behind a gas station at 60th and Bradley in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The incident unfolded around 11:47 p.m. when a red SUV pulled into the rear of the gas station and a woman exited the driver's seat. A short time later, Davis walked into the same area.
Surveillance footage from the gas station captured the tragic interaction.
The video shows the woman briefly returning to her vehicle before approaching Davis again. A physical altercation appears to have occurred, as the footage depicts Davis lurching backward as if he had been struck, causing his white hat to fall off. Immediately following this, the woman is seen stepping back, raising her arm, and a muzzle flash is visible. Davis then falls to the ground, out of the camera's view. After the shooting, the woman got back into the SUV and drove away from the scene.
Milwaukee police officers were dispatched to the location for a shooting and upon arrival, they discovered Davis on the pavement. Despite life-saving measures being administered, he was pronounced deceased at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Investigators at the scene recovered a single 9mm casing near his body. According to a criminal complaint, an autopsy later determined that Christopher Davis died from a gunshot wound to his back and the left side of his chest.
The investigation led police to identify 29-year-old Chrissy Jackson as the suspect. Surveillance video from earlier in the evening at the same gas station showed Jackson wearing the same clothing as the woman who shot Davis. Investigators traced the license plate of the red SUV to a Milwaukee residence. When officers arrived at the associated apartment, Jackson answered the door and was taken into custody. A detective was able to identify her as the individual from the surveillance video. During a consensual search of her apartment, a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun was found in what appeared to be a child's room. A preliminary examination confirmed that the casing found at the crime scene was fired from the handgun recovered in Jackson's residence. Chrissy Jackson has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide and is being held on a $200,000 cash bond.
