In the summer of 2023, a confrontation in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, turned deadly, claiming the life of 41-year-old Randall Uriah Fugate. On the evening of Sunday, July 30th, an argument erupted at the Brookhaven Apartments. The dispute initially involved Fugate and a third party, but soon drew the attention of another man, Trevian O'Dell.

According to accounts of the incident, O'Dell was at the apartment complex when he overheard the argument. Fugate then reportedly came outside and a new argument began between him and O'Dell. The verbal altercation quickly escalated to a fatal encounter. O'Dell, who had a gun in his waistband, drew the weapon and fired multiple shots at Fugate.

Following the shooting, O'Dell was identified as the suspect and taken into custody. He later appeared in Washington County Court to face a potential charge of first-degree murder. During legal proceedings, it was revealed that O'Dell alleged he believed Fugate was also armed and that he had been feeling mentally unstable in the days leading up to the incident. A bond was set for O'Dell as the legal process began to unfold.
