In the small town of Hugo, Oklahoma, the life of Bobby Joe Johnson Sr., a 47-year-old White / Caucasian male, was cut short in a violent encounter on January 2, 2024. Johnson, who was born on March 29, 1976, was a lifelong resident of the McCurtain/Choctaw County area. He was known by his family as a 'Jack of all trades' and had a reputation for being able to fix anything.
He spent many years working as a machinist.
The circumstances that led to his death began to unfold when the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was called to assist the Choctaw County Sheriff's Office with a homicide investigation. Authorities found Johnson deceased from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
According to the investigation, evidence suggested that an altercation had occurred prior to the shooting. It is alleged that Johnson had physically assaulted the wife of 21-year-old Tyler Andrew Klaus. This confrontation escalated, culminating in Klaus allegedly shooting Johnson.
Following the incident, Tyler Andrew Klaus was arrested and taken into custody. He was booked into the Choctaw County Jail and charged with First-Degree Murder. The investigation into the events of that day remains ongoing. Bobby Joe Johnson Sr. is survived by his wife, Krystal Sipes-Johnson, his three children, Sierra Timms, Kylee Johnson, and Bobby Joe Johnson, Jr., as well as his mother and three grandchildren.
