In the early morning hours of October 19, 2023, the community of Toppenish, Washington, was shaken by a tragic event that claimed the lives of four young people, including 13-year-old Isaac Corpuz. A student at Toppenish Middle School, Isaac was a Hispanic male known to be a funny and cherished individual.
The incident unfolded in the 200 block of Pearne Street, where police were dispatched around 5:00 a.m. to reports of a shooting. At the scene, they discovered a devastating situation.
Isaac Corpuz, along with 18-year-old Altagracia Mancillas-Hernandez and 21-year-old Alicia Castro, had been fatally shot. A fourth individual, another 21-year-old, was also found with gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Investigators identified the shooter as 19-year-old Raymundo Lopez. After shooting the four victims, Lopez died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Yakima County Coroner's office confirmed the identities of the deceased. The investigation concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. While the motive for this violent act has not been definitively released, the loss of four young lives, including that of young Isaac, left a profound and lasting scar on the Toppenish community.
