In the early morning hours of September 6, 2024, the life of 37-year-old Heather Renee England, a White / Caucasian female from Wapato, Washington, was tragically cut short. Responding to reports of gunshots in the 100 block of Mellis Road, deputies from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office discovered Heather with gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The incident was quickly identified as a case of domestic violence.

The investigation immediately focused on her boyfriend, 45-year-old Gianni Philip Alaimo of Yakima. Alaimo had fled the scene following the shooting, sparking a multi-day manhunt. His vehicle was later found abandoned in Wapato. The search for Alaimo intensified as troubling details emerged about the days leading up to Heather's death. Just one day prior, on September 5, Heather had sought and obtained a domestic violence protection order against him. This legal measure was taken after Alaimo allegedly crashed into both Heather's and her sister's cars on September 3, a clear escalation of violent behavior.

In a grim turn of events, it was revealed that Alaimo had been arrested on September 5 for second-degree malicious mischief and reckless endangerment related to an argument with Heather. However, a Yakima County Superior Court judge had granted him pre-trial release with a no-contact order. This decision came under heavy scrutiny following the fatal shooting. The manhunt for Alaimo concluded on September 10, when detectives, acting on a community tip, located him in a vehicle. A pursuit ensued, ending with his arrest at Front Street and West Yakima Avenue. Alaimo now faces serious charges, including aggravated first-degree murder with domestic violence and second-degree assault with domestic violence.
