On Halloween night in Longview, Washington, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragedy that left two people dead. Cecilia Robles Ochoa, a 39-year-old Hispanic woman, and her husband, Juan Antonio Alvarado Saenz, 38, were found deceased in the kitchen of their home on Olympia Way. The couple’s 11-year-old son was in another room of the house at the time, playing video games with earbuds in, and did not witness the violent altercation. It was the child who discovered his parents and called 911 at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies from the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office found both Robles Ochoa and Alvarado Saenz with significant injuries. Despite the efforts of first responders, both were pronounced dead at the scene. The subsequent investigation by the Cowlitz County Coroner's Office determined that both deaths were homicides. An autopsy revealed that Cecilia Robles Ochoa died from a combination of gunshot and stab wounds, while Juan Antonio Alvarado Saenz died from multiple stab wounds to the chest.
Investigators learned through interviews that the couple had been experiencing relationship problems and were planning to separate. At the scene, a knife and a handgun were recovered. The firearm was later found to have been stolen by Alvarado Saenz from his employer and had not been reported missing until after the incident. Authorities concluded that the couple had been assaulting each other, but they were unable to identify a primary aggressor. As both individuals involved were deceased, no arrests were made, and authorities stated there was no ongoing threat to the public. The case has been classified as a mutual assault resulting in both of their deaths.
