Tamieka Ross, a 45-year-old woman from Columbus, Ohio, tragically lost her life on January 8, 2023, in a shooting incident that occurred in the Hilltop area of the city. The Columbus Division of Police responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 5:10 PM in the 700 block of Butler Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Ross suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, she was pronounced deceased at 5:19 PM.
Investigators determined that Ross had been involved in an ongoing argument with her boyfriend, 50-year-old Sinnea Thomas, throughout the day. The couple, who lived together at the residence, had been engaged in a verbal dispute that eventually escalated into a physical altercation. During this fight, Thomas allegedly shot Ross before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, Sinnea Thomas surrendered himself to detectives at Columbus police headquarters later that same evening. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Tamieka Ross and taken into custody. Thomas was held at the Franklin County jail, where he faced legal proceedings for his alleged involvement in Ross's death.
In a significant development on May 29, 2024, it was reported that Sinnea Thomas, by then 51 years old, received a life sentence for the fatal shooting of Tamieka Ross. Prior to sentencing, Thomas had entered a guilty plea to the charge of murder in connection with Ross's death. The court's decision brought a measure of legal closure to the case, more than a year after the tragic event that claimed Ross's life.
