In the early hours of April 28, 2023, 25-year-old Ryan Healey was fatally shot near the intersection of Main Street and McMicken Avenue in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. Responding to reports of a person down around 2:54 a.m., officers found Healey with a gunshot wound. He was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Nearly a year later, on February 7, 2024, Cincinnati police charged 17-year-old Anjuan Marion with Healey's murder. Marion was already incarcerated at the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest. The Crime Gun Intelligence Center assisted in linking Marion to the shooting.
In July 2024, a judge ruled that Marion would be tried as an adult on charges including murder, felonious assault, and improper discharge of a firearm on a public street. Prosecutors indicated that Marion, then 16, allegedly fired the fatal shots from a vehicle. The motive remains unclear, though Healey's family suspects robbery, as his wallet was missing.
Healey was remembered as a vibrant individual who brought joy to those around him. His father, Rob Healey, described the loss as the worst thing that could happen to a parent. Healey's girlfriend, Grace Garber, expressed that Cincinnati feels like it's missing a significant part of itself without him.
