David McCray, a 40-year-old man from Cleveland, Ohio, tragically lost his life on May 25, 2023, in a shooting incident at a car wash. The incident occurred just after 5 p.m. at an auto wash located near the 3600 block of Carnegie Avenue in Cleveland.
When police arrived at the scene, they found McCray slumped over inside his vehicle in the vacuum section of the car wash. He had suffered nine gunshot wounds.
Emergency services rushed McCray to University Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
According to reports, two men approached McCray's vehicle at the car wash and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Initially, no arrests were made, and authorities urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
The Cleveland Police Homicide Division conducted an investigation and identified Stafonze Robinson, a 23-year-old man, as a suspect in McCray's fatal shooting. A warrant was subsequently issued for Robinson's arrest.
On August 22, 2023, nearly three months after the incident, members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Stafonze Robinson. The arrest took place at an address near the 18900 block of Homeway Road in Cleveland. During the arrest, law enforcement also seized a firearm.
Robinson was wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for aggravated murder in connection with McCray's death. The U.S. Marshals Service, working in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, played a crucial role in apprehending the suspect as part of their ongoing efforts to arrest violent fugitives and maintain public safety in Cleveland.
