On September 4, 2023, Mercedes Tiana Iverson-Carter, aged 30, was tragically shot and killed during a family picnic in Stafford Park, Maple Heights, Ohio. She was pregnant at the time of her death, expecting a daughter named Ava. Mercedes and her husband, Trea "Norbert" Carter, who was 31 years old, were attending the picnic when the incident occurred.
