On the night of September 28, 2023, Shaker Heights police responded to a disturbance report at a residence on Ludgate Road. Upon arrival, officers found four children outside and on the upper floors of the home. The children informed the officers that their father had shot their mother. Inside the residence, police discovered Danielle Harris, 35, and Lasteven Huckabee, 35, both deceased from gunshot wounds.
Authorities identified the incident as a murder-suicide, with Huckabee shooting Harris before taking his own life.
Danielle Harris was remembered by her family as an "outstanding, positive and uplifting" individual and a loving mother to her children. Her aunt, Pat Harris, expressed heartbreak over the loss, describing Danielle as an amazing woman. Another relative, Tonia Parker, prayed for the well-being of Harris's children, emphasizing the need to end domestic violence.
Following the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign was established by Harris's mother, Danelle Harris, to support the three surviving children, aged 15, 10, and 7. The campaign highlighted the children's trauma from witnessing the event and the family's need for assistance in their care.
