On December 10, 2023, at approximately 4:45 a.m., Ty'Rice Logan, a 26-year-old resident of Youngstown, Ohio, was fatally shot outside Miss Daisy's Place, a nightspot located at 2210 South Avenue. Logan was found near the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds.
The Youngstown Police Department launched an investigation into the incident. On December 15, 2023, authorities issued a murder warrant for 19-year-old Jonthony Altreche in connection with Logan's death. The shooting was reportedly captured on video, as stated by prosecutors during a preliminary hearing in municipal court.
Altreche remained at large for over a month following the incident. On February 3, 2024, he was apprehended after a brief police chase on the East Side of Youngstown. The pursuit began when officers attempted to stop a black BMW on Wilson Avenue in which Altreche was a passenger. The vehicle failed to yield, leading to a chase that ended with a non-injury crash near the intersection of S. Montgomery and Wilson Avenues.
Following his arrest, Altreche was questioned by investigators and subsequently taken to the Mahoning County Jail on a murder charge. On March 5, 2024, Altreche, now 20 years old, pleaded not guilty to the murder charge in connection with Logan's death.
The case is currently proceeding through the legal system. Altreche's attorney, Aaron Meikle, has notified Judge Maureen Sweeney that his client intends to claim self-defense. The defense has also requested a modification of Altreche's bond, which is set at $750,000. A pretrial hearing is scheduled, with a jury trial set to commence on October 7, 2024.
Altreche faces several serious charges, including aggravated murder, murder, and unlawful possession of a firearm in a location with a liquor permit. Additionally, he was indicted for failing to comply with a police officer's order during the chase that led to his arrest.
