On December 23, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Cincinnati police officers responded to a reported shooting in the 1700 block of Republic Street in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 34-year-old Shawntase Beavers suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite first responders' efforts to administer life-saving measures, Beavers was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nearly six months later, on June 2, 2024, authorities arrested 25-year-old Eric Harris in connection with Beavers' death. Harris was taken into custody on an open murder warrant. During court proceedings, prosecutors revealed that Harris admitted to engaging in a physical altercation with Beavers prior to the shooting. Following his arrest, Harris was held without bond at the Hamilton County Justice Center.
The arrest brought a significant development to the case, which had remained unsolved for months. The Cincinnati Police Department's Homicide Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
