On May 12, 2024, at approximately 3:25 a.m., Middletown police responded to reports of gunfire in the 1700 block of Sheffield Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered three individuals with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. Nineteen-year-old Devonte Malachi Beverly was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other victims were transported to Atrium Medical Center; their conditions have not been publicly disclosed.
