On June 23, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Mohammad S. Hammad, a 37-year-old father of five, was tragically shot and killed in the driveway of his home in the 5100 block of Miller Avenue in Maple Heights, Ohio. The Maple Heights Police Department responded to calls of shots fired and found Hammad lying in his driveway with a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of Maple Heights Fire and EMS personnel who arrived to provide medical aid, Hammad was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hammad was described by his family as a loving son, uncle, and father who was known for his generosity and willingness to help others. He worked at a local gas station where he often assisted customers who couldn't afford their purchases by paying the difference out of his own pocket. On the night of his death, Hammad had been bringing dinner to his mother, which his brother Mustafa noted was his last act of kindness.
As of July 17, 2024, nearly a month after the incident, no arrests had been made in connection with Hammad's murder, and there were no main suspects identified. The Maple Heights Police Chief, Todd Hansen, stated that they were following up on some leads, but the tips had been minimal though steady. The motive for the shooting had not been verified at that time.
In an effort to gather more information, Crimestoppers of Cuyahoga County, Inc. offered a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for Hammad's death. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 216-252-7463 or provided online.
