On June 23, 2024, at approximately 9:54 a.m., the Preble County Sheriff's Office received a distressing 911 call from a woman who had discovered her parents deceased in their residence on Sonora Road, north of Lewisburg, Ohio. Upon arrival, deputies found 56-year-old Angela Hayslett with a fatal gunshot wound and her husband, 60-year-old Matthew Hayslett, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The couple had been living together intermittently at the home.

Preliminary investigations by the Sheriff's Office indicated that Angela was shot by Matthew, who then took his own life, leading authorities to treat the incident as a murder-suicide. The couple's daughter, who made the 911 call, informed dispatchers that her parents had been experiencing ongoing issues. Both bodies were transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, where autopsies were conducted the following day.

Investigators spent several hours at the scene, collecting evidence to be analyzed by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation Laboratory. The case remains under investigation by the Preble County Sheriff’s Office and the Preble County Coroner’s Office. No arrests have been made, as the primary suspect, Matthew Hayslett, is deceased.
