Gage Lane Anderson was a 17-year-old male from Kentucky with a bright future ahead of him. A recent and early graduate of Greenup County High School, he was spending the summer in Columbus, Ohio, working alongside his father at a landscaping company. His goal was to save up enough money to buy his own car. Family and friends remembered Gage as a wholesome and joyful person, someone who could light up a room and put a smile on every face he met.
On the evening of August 13, 2024, Gage's
life was cut short in what police described as a road rage incident. The fatal encounter took place at a United Dairy Farmers gas station on Clime Road in southwest Columbus. When officers arrived at the scene in response to a shooting, they found Gage unresponsive. He was rushed to a local hospital, but he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Columbus Police Department’s investigation quickly identified a suspect. Authorities determined that the shooting stemmed from a road rage altercation and that Gage and the other individual did not know each other prior to the incident. Police located 30-year-old Skyler Burley about a mile away from the gas station on Lynward Road and took him into custody.
Following his arrest, Skyler Burley was charged with murder for the shooting death of Gage Anderson. The case proceeded through the legal system, reaching a resolution the following spring. On April 25, 2025, Burley pleaded guilty to the charge of murder, bringing the case to a close.
