Robert E. "Hubba" Herron, a 30-year-old resident of East Liverpool, Ohio, was tragically shot and killed on September 9, 2024, in Wellsville, Ohio. The incident occurred between 11 p.m. and midnight on 10th Street in Wellsville. Herron was found with a gunshot wound and was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately died en route.
The Wellsville Police Department, under the leadership of Chief Ed Wilson, launched a homicide investigation immediately following the incident.
The case has garnered significant attention, with Columbiana County Prosecutor Vito Abruzzino confirming Herron's identity as the victim and offering full assistance and cooperation to the Wellsville authorities in their investigation.
As of September 17, 2024, the police had identified two persons of interest in connection with the case. One of these individuals was taken into custody on September 10, 2024, a day after the shooting, for unrelated parole violations and outstanding warrants. The identity of this person has not been released to the public. Chief Wilson stated that after further investigation, charges would be filed.
The investigation remains active, with authorities following up on additional leads and preparing potential charges. Evidence has been sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) for DNA analysis, a process that could take anywhere from two to six months. Prosecutor Abruzzino noted that while the investigation is progressing on a reasonable timeline, the main hold-up is waiting for the BCI results.
Roberta Pratt, Herron's mother, has made a public plea for justice and information regarding her son's murder. The Wellsville Police Department has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact them at 330-532-1522.
