On October 14, 2024, at approximately 1 p.m., 23-year-old Danias Jeremiah Weaver was fatally shot in the 1700 block of Llanfair Avenue in Cincinnati's College Hill neighborhood. Responding officers from the Cincinnati Police Department discovered Weaver inside his vehicle, suffering from a single gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by the Cincinnati Fire Department, Weaver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting's proximity to educational institutions prompted precautionary measures. College Hill Fundamental Academy and Aiken High School implemented temporary "lockout" procedures, securing their premises and restricting visitor access. Mercy McAuley High School also enacted a brief lockdown during the police response. These measures were lifted once authorities determined there was no ongoing threat to the schools.
Born on November 14, 2000, in Northern Kentucky, Weaver was the fifth of four children to parents Darwin J. Weaver and Venus Ball. He graduated from Hughes High School and Virtual High School on May 15, 2019, where he participated in football, wrestling, and the Zoo Academy. Weaver acquired skills in welding, painting, and customer service through various jobs. On August 1, 2023, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, training in infantry until April 8, 2024. Contemplating further education in barbering and entrepreneurship, Weaver was considering rejoining the Army for advanced training. He was remembered as a devoted son, uncle, friend, and father figure.
Weaver's family expressed profound grief over his untimely death, emphasizing his positive nature and aspirations. His sisters noted that he was not involved in street activities and was striving to find his path. The family learned of his passing through social media, adding to their distress.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not released information regarding potential suspects or motives.
