On New Year's Day in 2023, a shooting in Clovis, New Mexico, resulted in the death of 28-year-old Hispanic male, Oscar Trujillo. The incident marked the city's first homicide of the year. Trujillo was seriously injured in the altercation and later succumbed to his injuries.

The man identified as the shooter was Ian Michael Downs, a 30-year-old from Littlefield, Texas. Initially, Downs faced a charge of Aggravated Battery. Following Trujillo's death, this charge was upgraded to Murder. How ...
