In the summer of 2023, the life of a Hispanic male named Ruben Mireles, aged 41, came to a tragic end in Clovis, New Mexico. On the morning of Sunday, July 2, 2023, police were dispatched around 9:30 a.m. following reports of an argument between two men that was punctuated by the sound of gunfire. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that Mireles had sustained a gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led authorities to a suspect, Jesse Ruiz. The incident that led to the fatal shooting occurred when Ruben Mireles found Ruiz in the bedroom of his ex-girlfriend. What began as a verbal confrontation between the two men rapidly escalated. The argument turned physical when Mireles lunged at Ruiz. In that moment, Ruiz grabbed a pistol that was on a nearby nightstand and fired a single, fatal shot.
