On June 23, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a tragic shooting occurred at the intersection of Avenida del Sol and Cortez Drive in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Jonathan Pena, aged 26, and his sister Jacinya Pena, aged 23, were shot while inside a vehicle. Jonathan was pronounced dead at the scene, while Jacinya was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
