Originally from Garden City, Michigan, Douglas was a 2017 graduate of Dearborn Heights Annapolis High School, where he was active in the Junior ROTC program and the school band.
Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, he enlisted in the Army, where he was a respected leader. His family remembers him as a patriotic and loyal soldier who took great pride in his military service and appearance.
In his personal life, Douglas was known for his love of attending rodeos in Kansas, often donning his favorite cowboy hat and boots. He cherished time with his family, engaging in video games with his brother and lighthearted conversations with his sister. He was a beloved uncle to his niece and nephew.
The Riley County Police Department identified Simpson after his body was discovered at the K-177 Scenic Overlook.
