On May 18, 2023, 29-year-old Kristy Choua Thow of Shawnee, Kansas, tragically lost her life in a domestic shooting incident at her mother's residence in Kansas City, Kansas. The altercation also claimed the life of her mother, 50-year-old Penny Smith, who succumbed to her injuries on May 21. The perpetrator, identified as Smith's husband, 51-year-old Christopher Smith, died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
