A normal workday at a Harvey shipyard turned tragic when a recently terminated employee returned to his former workplace and opened fire, taking the lives of two men, including 48-year-old Nakie James Brown. The incident, which unfolded at FMT Shipyard, also resulted in the death of 20-year-old Dustin Parrie Jr.
The perpetrator was identified as 31-year-old Willis Thomas Jr. Thomas had been fired from the shipyard the week prior to the shooting.
His return to the facility was marked by violence, as he fatally shot both Brown and Parrie. The motive for the shooting appears to be related to his recent termination.
Following the shootings within the shipyard, law enforcement was dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, a standoff ensued with Thomas. The confrontation escalated, and Thomas reportedly fired several shots at the deputies. The officers returned fire, and Thomas was struck multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene, bringing a violent end to the tragic events he had set in motion.
