In the summer of 2023, a dispute over the custody of a three-year-old boy at a Baton Rouge apartment complex tragically escalated, leaving two men dead, including 18-year-old Dyshon Williams. The events unfolded on July 21st at the Fairway View Apartments on College Drive, where simmering tensions erupted into fatal violence. That evening, witnesses reported observing a fight at the community’s exercise facility, a precursor to the deadly confrontation that would soon follow.
The
conflict centered around 23-year-old Dantonior Stalling, who had arrived at the apartment complex to pick up his young son. A heated argument broke out, culminating in Stalling shooting Williams. When officers from the Baton Rouge Police Department responded to the scene, they found the gravely wounded Williams lying on the ground. The situation rapidly intensified as Stalling, still armed, confronted the police.
In a tense standoff, Stalling pointed his handgun at the officers and reportedly demanded that they shoot him. Despite commands to drop his weapon, he refused to comply. In response to the immediate threat, police fired, fatally wounding him. Both Dyshon Williams and Dantonior Stalling were transported to a local hospital, but neither survived their injuries. They were both pronounced dead that night, leaving behind a wake of sorrow and a young child without a father or an uncle. The Baton Rouge Police Department later released video footage of the officer-involved shooting aspect of the incident.
