In the quiet community of New Roads, Louisiana, a domestic dispute escalated to a fatal conclusion, ending the life of 24-year-old Shaniqua Smith. On the night of August 14, 2023, Smith was discovered deceased inside a trailer on Olinde Street, the victim of a gunshot wound. The ensuing investigation quickly pointed to a person of interest: Marian Williams, Smith's recent ex-girlfriend.
The relationship between the two had recently ended, and prior to the shooting, the New Roads Police Department already had an active warrant for Williams' arrest on a charge of nonconsensual disclosure of a private image.
Following the discovery of Smith's body, Williams fled the scene, leaving behind crucial evidence—her cell phone and identification. This prompted a search that extended to her hometown of Marrero. In October 2025, a judge in the 18th Judicial District Court sentenced Williams to a total of 50 years in prison.
