In the quiet community of Mandeville, Louisiana, a domestic disturbance escalated into a tragic and fatal shooting, claiming the life of 44-year-old Omar Hyman. On the morning of August 14, 2023, deputies from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of Cherry Ridge Drive following reports of a domestic incident involving gunfire.
Upon their arrival, they discovered that Omar Hyman had been shot. Despite his injuries, Hyman managed to flee his home and seek help from a neighbor. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but tragically, he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead.
As the investigation unfolded, law enforcement's focus turned to the Hyman residence. Believing the suspect was still inside, the St. Tammany Parish SWAT team was called to the scene. After attempts to make contact with the individual inside were unsuccessful, the SWAT team made entry into the home. There, they found 41-year-old Cheryl Hyman, Omar's wife, deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The preliminary investigation led detectives to classify the incident as a murder-suicide. They concluded that Cheryl Hyman shot her husband before taking her own life. As a result of this determination, there were no arrests made in connection with Omar Hyman's death, and no other suspects were sought.
