On September 12, 2023, a tragic shooting occurred at St. Helena College and Career Academy in Greensburg, Louisiana, resulting in the death of 16-year-old Vernon Gordon Jr. The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. when a 14-year-old suspect, also a student at the school, opened fire on a car in the school parking lot where Gordon and two other students were sitting.
