In the small community of Greensburg, Louisiana, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 54-year-old Gary Wayne Porter, a local man. On the evening of October 17, 2016, deputies from the St. Helena Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence on Higginbotham Road following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr.
Porter, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The initial investigation swiftly pointed to a familial conflict gone horribly wrong. Authorities identified the suspect as Gary Wayne Porter's own son, 22-year-old Gavin Porter. It is believed that a heated altercation between father and son preceded the deadly shooting. Gavin was subsequently arrested and taken into custody in connection with his father's death.
The legal proceedings against Gavin Porter, however, would not reach a conclusion in a court of law. On February 25, 2020, at the age of 26, Gavin Porter passed away. His death effectively brought an end to the criminal case, leaving the full details of the events that transpired on that tragic evening to remain with the family.
