In the small city of Carencro, Louisiana, a young life was tragically cut short in a burst of violence that shook the community. Eric Nunnery, an 18-year-old male, was fatally wounded in a shooting that unfolded on the afternoon of Thursday, November 9, 2023. He succumbed to his injuries two days later, on Saturday, November 11, 2023.
The incident took place at Carencro Park, where police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 2 p.m.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered both Eric Nunnery and another 18-year-old, Tyrell Earnest Harris, inside a vehicle, each suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. While Harris was pronounced dead at the scene, Nunnery was transported to a local hospital where he fought for his life for two days before passing away.
The investigation into the double homicide, led by the Carencro Police Department with assistance from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, quickly identified a suspect. Through witness statements and the use of crime cameras, authorities were able to pinpoint 21-year-old Kamie Jacob LeBlanc as the alleged shooter. LeBlanc was apprehended later the same afternoon in the neighboring city of Lafayette.
In the months that followed, the legal process moved forward. In February 2024, a grand jury in the 15th Judicial District Court handed down an indictment against Kamie Jacob LeBlanc. He was formally charged with two counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of Eric Nunnery and Tyrell Harris. Under Louisiana law, a conviction for second-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
