In the late hours of a Sunday in New Orleans, the life of Erik Mukhtar, a 25-year-old male, was tragically cut short. On November 12, 2023, he was fatally shot in the 14700 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Three days later, on November 15, the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office officially identified him and determined that the cause of death was from gunshot wound injuries.

The investigation into his death progressed, and detectives from the New Orleans Police Department Homicide Section identified 25-year-old Travis Brown as the perpetrator. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Brown on a charge of second-degree murder.

On January 19, 2024, members of the NOPD's Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals located Brown at a residence in the Seventh District. He was arrested without incident and was set to be booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
