Christopher Wilson, a 38-year-old Black man, was shot and killed on the night of November 22, 2023, in New Orleans. The shooting occurred shortly before 8:00 p.m. in the 2200 block of Canal Street. When New Orleans police officers arrived, they found Mr. Wilson unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services rushed him to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Investigators learned that a second man had also been wounded in the same burst of
gunfire. That individual was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle for treatment. Mr. Wilson’s death was one of two separate fatal shootings that took place just blocks and minutes apart on Canal Street that evening. In the other incident, a 28-year-old man named Timothy Sams was killed in the 800 block of the street.
Police confirmed the two shootings were distinct events and opened separate homicide investigations. For the case in the 2200 block, detectives began gathering evidence and working to establish a motive and identify the person or people responsible for the attack that killed Christopher Wilson.
In the days that followed, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office officially identified Mr. Wilson and confirmed his cause of death. As of late November 2023, authorities had not publicly announced any arrests or identified any suspects in his killing. The case remains unsolved.
