Though the shooting occurred at the apartment complex, Davis was found in his vehicle in front of a shoe store in a nearby strip mall along Manhattan Boulevard. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the homicide, seeking to piece together the events that led to the young father's demise. It is believed that Davis may have known someone at the apartment complex and that upon his arrival, two individuals entered his car before he was shot multiple times.
In the months following the shooting, the investigation led to the arrest of three suspects, including the brother of another man sought in connection with the crime. As the search for the fourth suspect, identified as 27-year-old Levante Cardardo, continued, Davis's family pleaded with the public for any information that could lead to his capture.
