In the late afternoon of August 28, 2024, a dispute between two half-brothers in Pineville, Louisiana, took a fatal turn. Twenty-year-old Jacquez Burks, a Black male, was shot during the altercation. First responders were called to the 200 block of Lee Street around 2:30 PM where they discovered Burks suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The argument that preceded the
shooting involved Burks and his 18-year-old half-brother, Steven Bush of Natchitoches. During the course of their disagreement, Bush produced a gun and shot Burks once. The specifics of what the two were arguing about have not been publicly released by investigators. The Pineville Police Department responded to the scene and began an immediate investigation into the shooting.
Thanks to swift police work, a suspect was identified and apprehended within a couple of hours of the incident. Steven Bush was arrested and subsequently charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. He was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center. A judge set his bond at $1,025,000. The investigation into the death of Jacquez Burks, known to some as 'Quez,' remains ongoing.
