On a summer evening in Stearns, Kentucky, a dispute escalated into a fatal encounter that ended the life of Robert L. Lowe Jr., a 36-year-old Caucasian male. The incident unfolded on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at a residence on Wagon Ridge Road. An argument had broken out between Lowe and another Stearns resident, 42-year-old Gabriel N. Campbell.
As the confrontation intensified, Lowe was seated in the driver's seat of his vehicle when a male juvenile shot him.
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 6:45 p.m., but it was too late. The McCreary County Coroner's Office pronounced Lowe dead at the scene. His body was later taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
The Kentucky State Police quickly launched a murder investigation into the shooting. Their investigation led to the arrest of a male juvenile who was charged with murder and taken to the Adair County Youth Development Center. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of a second male juvenile, who also faces a murder charge in connection with Lowe's death. He was also lodged in the Adair County Youth Development Center. The investigation by the Kentucky State Police is ongoing.
