In the late evening hours of August 15, 2023, in Louisville's Russell neighborhood, a burst of violence shattered the night and ended a life. Terrez L. Cureton, a 31-year-old man, was in a parking lot at the corner of South 26th and Market Streets when he was struck by gunfire. The incident occurred at approximately 10:10 p.m., prompting a swift response from the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered Cureton suffering from a gunshot
wound. He was immediately transported to UofL Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Cureton succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity and the cause of his death.
For months, the investigation into Cureton's death continued, with the Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit diligently following leads. The case saw a significant development in the new year. On January 3, 2024, law enforcement located and apprehended a suspect in Florence, Alabama, with the cooperation of multiple agencies in that area.
The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Lamarr Jones. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Terrez Cureton. Following his arrest, Jones appeared in court where a judge set his bond at $500,000. The arrest brought a measure of progress to a case that had left a family and a community seeking answers and justice for the loss of a young life.
