Jacob Sheldon Adair, a 28-year-old white male, was killed on October 6, 2023, in a violent incident at a residence in Belfry, Kentucky. The shooting, which occurred at a home on State Highway 292 West, also resulted in the death of 38-year-old Rodney Estep of Lexington. A third victim, Chasity Adair, who was married to Jacob, was also shot but survived her injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Pike County Coroner's Office pronounced both Jacob Adair and Rodney Estep dead at the scene from fatal gunshot wounds.
The investigation, led by the Kentucky State Police, quickly pointed to three suspects from Cincinnati, Ohio. Following the shooting, the perpetrators are believed to have stolen a white Dodge Charger from the home and fled the scene. A pursuit began after a Carter County sheriff's deputy spotted the vehicle on Interstate 64. The chase continued onto other routes, with the suspects' vehicle reportedly swerving into oncoming traffic, forcing other cars off the road. The chase ended in Lewis County, where the three occupants of the vehicle surrendered to authorities and were taken into custody.
Three men were arrested in connection with the double homicide: Joshua Orlando Pack Jr., 25, Devon A. Overstreet, 26, and Jolon Marcell McCree, 22. They were initially charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. The charges also included fleeing or evading police and theft by unlawful taking of a motor vehicle. Additionally, McCree faced charges of wanton endangerment for driving the vehicle during the pursuit, while Pack was charged with possession of fentanyl. Later, the three men were indicted on federal charges related to armed drug trafficking, including conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and firing a gun during a drug trafficking crime. The suspects were lodged in the Carter County Detention Center.
