In the small community of Belfry, Kentucky, a tragic event unfolded on October 6, 2023, ending the life of 38-year-old Rodney Matthew Estep. On that day, Estep, a resident of nearby Inez, was found deceased from gunshot wounds at a home on State Highway 292 West. He was not alone in death; his brother, Jacob Sheldon Adair, age 28, was also found fatally shot at the scene.
A third individual, Chasity Adair, who was 28 years old at the time, also sustained gunshot wounds but survived and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Pike County Coroner's Office pronounced both Estep and Jacob Adair dead at the scene.
Rodney, known to friends and family as Matt, was born on August 21, 1985. He was a father of two children, Melissa Lynn Estep and Matthew Estep. An alumnus of Sheldon Clark High School where he was a talented football player, he was remembered as a man who cherished time with his family and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, often enjoying camping, hunting, fishing, and hiking.
The investigation into the double homicide and assault quickly led law enforcement to three suspects from Cincinnati, Ohio. Joshua Orlando Pack Jr., 25, Devon A. Overstreet, 26, and Jolon Marcell McCree, 22, were arrested in connection with the shootings. Each of the three men was charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. Following their arrests, they were held at the Carter County Detention Center. The Kentucky State Police, led by Detective Joshua Scott, spearheaded the investigation that brought these charges forward.
