In the early hours of Sunday, March 17, 2024, the life of a young man was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. Darryl A. Malone, a 20-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in the Cloverleaf neighborhood. The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. at 2801 De Mel Avenue.
Following the shooting, Malone was transported by a private vehicle to UofL Health Mary and Elizabeth Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
When Louisville Metro Police officers initially responded to the report of the shooting, they did not find a victim at the scene. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later identified Malone as the deceased.
Born on February 15, 2004, Darryl was known for his vibrant and spirited personality. He was a student at Simmons Bible College and the CEO of a clothing line called Dirt2Diamonds, which he used to inspire others to overcome their struggles. He was also an avid basketball player who loved music. His family and friends remember his infectious laughter, warm personality, and well-known love for giving bear hugs. He was a beloved son, brother, and friend to many.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the shooting. As of now, there have been no arrests made in connection with the case, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and have provided an anonymous tip line to encourage community assistance in solving the crime.
