In the quiet of a Monday morning in Stanford, Kentucky, a long-simmering conflict reached its tragic end, leaving one man dead and his father facing accusations of murder. Jackie “Dutch” McNew Jr., a 49-year-old male, was shot and killed on September 9, 2024, in an outbuilding on his father's property. The chain of events that led to this fatal encounter reportedly began when his father, 72-year-old Jack McNew, discovered that the tires on his vehicles had been flattened.
Angered by
the discovery, the elder McNew walked to the separate building where his son was staying. When Jackie McNew Jr. opened the door, he was met with gunfire. His father allegedly shot him multiple times with a 9mm handgun. After his son fell, he reportedly fired additional shots to ensure he was dead. It was the shooter himself who then placed a call to 911 to report the shooting.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene on U.S. Highway 27 South, they found Jackie McNew Jr. critically wounded. Emergency medical services were dispatched, and preparations were made to airlift him to a university medical center. However, his condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was diverted to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the Lincoln County Coroner.
In the aftermath, Jack McNew was taken into custody by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. He reportedly told investigators that he 'didn't want anyone to see his son acting like this' and that he had 'put him out of his misery.' He also stated that he did not render aid to his son because he 'knew in his heart that the victim was dead.' Jack McNew was subsequently charged with murder and first-degree burglary and was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center. A Lincoln County grand jury later indicted him on both charges.
