On March 9, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred in Southeast Portland, resulting in the death of 39-year-old Rene Ramirez Martinez. The incident took place near Southeast Powell Boulevard and Southeast 74th Avenue, where officers responded to a "Shots Fired" call around 7:30 p.m..

Upon arrival, police found Martinez dead in a lot near an area where people were living in parked RVs. The Medical Examiner confirmed that the manner and cause of his death was homicide by gunshot wound.
