On the night of Friday, August 11, 2023, in the Sunderland neighborhood of Northeast Portland, the life of a 37-year-old Caucasian male, Brandon S. Lockwood, was tragically cut short. Just before 11 p.m., Portland Police Bureau officers from the North Precinct were dispatched to the area of Northeast 33rd Drive and Northeast Elrod Road following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Lockwood suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
The officers immediately provided critical medical aid until paramedics could take over, but despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation into the death of Brandon Lockwood was handled by the Portland Police Bureau Homicide Unit. The medical examiner officially ruled the manner of death as a homicide caused by a gunshot. In the initial stages of the investigation, no immediate arrests were made, and the police sought information from the public to help piece together the events of that fatal night. Lockwood's family, who were notified of his death, provided a photograph of him for public release in the hopes it might generate leads.
The investigation led detectives to identify a suspect, 27-year-old Tyler K. Cashdollar of Vancouver, Washington. On August 23, 2023, the Multnomah County District Attorney's office presented the case to a Grand Jury. The jury returned an indictment against Cashdollar, charging him with Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The following month, on Thursday, September 21, 2023, Tyler K. Cashdollar was arrested on the warrant by the Vancouver Police Department. Following his arrest, detectives from both Portland and Vancouver executed search warrants related to Cashdollar and his property. He was interviewed by authorities and subsequently booked into the Clark County Jail, awaiting extradition to Multnomah County to face the charges against him. The family of Brandon Lockwood was notified of the arrest, marking a significant development in the case.
